D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has ordered a government-wide spending and hiring freeze due to a $1.1 billion Fiscal Year 2025 budget cut, while community activists and leaders are fighting back against the forces jeopardizing D.C. home rule, federal and local government employment, and the wellbeing of the District’s most marginalized residents.
